HomeTeam Pest Defense conducted a national survey earlier this year to find out the top pest issues for homeowners. The United States in general experienced a warmer-than-usual winter, which was nice in January, but it created early pest infestations in the spring.
An astounding 84% of American homeowners said they experienced pest problems in the past 12 months. In addition, about 22% of homes in the US experienced some structural damage caused by pests. Here’s a breakdown of the top pest issues for homeowners:
- 49% ants
- 43% spiders
- 37% flies
- 34% mosquitoes
- 30% mice
- 29% wasps
80% of homeowners expressed concerns about pest infestations in their home. The pests that have homeowners most worried include:
- Termites
- Cockroaches
- Rats
- Bed bugs
- Mice
54% of people who experienced some of the top pest issues for homeowners treated the infestation themselves. However, about two-thirds of these Do-It-Yourselfers were unable to solve the problem completely. 51% of homeowners said they believe it’s important to work with a reputable pest management service, and treatments that don’t harm children or pets are important to 80 percent of homeowners.
