The dinosaur craze is sweeping the nation once again with the recent release of “Jurassic World.”
You may recall that in the first Jurassic movie, dinosaurs were created from genetically modified DNA extracted from fossilized mosquitoes. The DNA strands were incomplete, and the scientists filled in the gaps with DNA from frogs to create the dinosaurs.
Today, besides being a pest, mosquitoes are a great concern to humans because they can transmit diseases such as West Nile, dengue, and chikungunya virus. Scientists are now using genetically modified mosquitoes to combat their own species. Recently, to neutralize dengue and chikungunya viruses, genetically modified mosquitos were developed to mage with unaltered mosquitoes. The process they used was similar to how “Jurassic Park” scientists created their dinosaurs.

Scientists have also conducted research to find out why mosquitoes are more attracted to some people than others. There have been many hypotheses, and many myths. However, a recent study suggests your DNA may make you more attractive to mosquitoes. So blame your genes if you tend to get bitten by mosquitoes more often than your friends.
If you have a mosquito problem around your home, it is possible to treat them to reduce their numbers. You can call HomeTeam at (877) 461-7378 or visit www.pestdefense.com to schedule an appointment.
